When your present is wasted by your past

I was driving to an event the other day and as it often happens when I am alone in the car and there is no music to distract me, my mind wandered. That night I wasn’t thinking about good things.

Luckily for me, I was trying an exercise in that season of my life. When something negative came to my mind I tried to remember a verse from the Bible to fight it. That time I had to remind myself about Isaiah 43:18-19 “Forgot the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

The thing is, I know that dwelling in past is a complete waste of time but I still do it. I know it is silly because I am taking something that happened years, months, days ago, even yesterday and put in my present. By doing that I am living something that is gone, dead. The real issue with reliving your past in your present was, while you was doing that, I was NOT living the NOW.

Going back to the verse I read. God is doing a new thing today and now. If you and I focus on the past, we will NOT see the NOW. Can we believe that God is making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland?

Sometimes dwelling in our past closes our eyes, our heart to the miracle of what God is doing now.

Let us not allow the past to waste our present!!!
